SynopsisEvan (Sean Adams), young, good looking, and gay, wants to be a filmmaker but not enough to actually make a film. He also wants to be in a relationship but not enough to stick with a guy for more than a couple of weeks. As his friend Barbara (Elizabeth Grant) says, "you want to want to make a movie and you want to want to be in a relationship but that's not the same thing." Together with their friend Bill (Lucas Raymond), a sweet but nerdy boy band fan, they navigate the world of men, dating everything from underwear models to mimes. One day, Evan meets Michael (Leigh Wingfield), the gay director of the canucksploitation classic Bikinis in the Snow. Unlike Evan, who frets about his ideas not being good enough, Michael doesn't care if it makes any sense for his sequel to include a character who got a harpoon through her head in the original. Meanwhile, Evan's straight brother Jay (Michael Longley) has moved in with him, uninvited. Jay is handsome and self-confident, and applies a key lesson from his advertising job to his dating life: "figure out what the customer wants and help them see that our product can give them that." After dating a string of bimbos, he's ready to move on to more sophisiticated women. Most Guys Today is a playful romp through the young single scene, gay and straight, in Toronto today. The characters invite us into their world, showing us the media they watch and the media they create. |
